Laura/Kara Fic Party!

I'm posting this a day earlier than I said, as I think a lot of stuff is happening tomorrow and I wanted to get this out there :)

Ok! letterstonorah and I declare the Immortal Goddesses Fic Party open!

Here's the plan.

What we'd like are prompts. Lots of prompts. HUNDREDS of prompts. Any kind of prompts you like - single words, song lyrics, phrases, scenarios, acts, themes, tropes, emotions, entire plots, anything. Any rating is fine.

Keep each prompt to its own comment, please.

And then we all just fill prompts. Check the prompts, pick one, two, five, twenty, fifty, that you like and create fanworks focused on Laura/Kara that fit them, then post as a comment reply to the prompt. If you create something too large to fit in a comment box, or if you'd just rather do it that way anyhow, then feel free to post to your own journal and just post a link to the fanwork as a reply.

Although we’ve called this a fic party, any kind of creative response to the prompt is ok, so while we all adore fic and hope to see lots of it, we'd love to see graphics, icons, mini fanmixes, picspams, pieces of meta or anything else you want to create too.

Fics don't have to be long! Drabble size is absolutely fine if you want to just get a feel for it to begin with. If you want to write epics, though, believe me, no one will complain...

It's fine for more than one person to create something for the same prompt.

It's also fine for you to create things for your own prompts, so if you have a story you really want to write that doesn't fit anything here, leave yourself a prompt and fill it.

If you want to leave anonymous prompts and fic for whatever reason, you can do that. I think I've arranged the settings so you can.

Although shippy is preferable, we’re ok with gen too, so long as the focus is on Kara and Laura and their relationship with each other, not just a K/L or A/R story with a bit of bonus Kara&Laura conversation, if that makes sense. Other characters are also ok, so long as there is a main focus on Laura/Kara. Either canon-based or AU stories are fine.

There's no right or wrong way to write them! So don't worry if you've never written the pairing before. Most people haven't. We're all figuring it out together, but the one thing we can probably all agree on is that they are beautiful and wonderful and lovely. So ... create your own versions of them and share them with us, and that's absolutely fine.

Please make sure you put appropriate ratings and warnings on any fic you write, in the comment header. I’m not really going to mod this, except to delete anything spammy or that I think is totally inappropriate, so if you write something that is likely to be very triggery, please put it under a cut on your own journal and just link to it here.

Please try to leave feedback on the fanworks posted.

At some point, if we get a lot of participation, I’ll make a start on some kind of masterlist, but it’ll depend on whether it looks necessary.

There is no deadline and I don't plan to close this thread. I'm going to link to it at the side of my journal and I would like to ask you guys to track the post so that you will get notifications when new prompts are left and when new fic, etc, is posted, so that you can write, read and respond, otherwise, the way LJ works, this will be out of sight, out of mind after a day or two.

Nora and I are hoping this might go on indefinitely, so you can continue to leave prompts and create fanworks for as long as you like. Weeks, months, whatever. Keep coming back and checking it out whenever you feel like writing the pairing, and point other people in this direction if you think they would enjoy it. Nora and I might periodically put little reminders that this is here on our own LJs.

In short

- Leave prompts
- Read prompts
- Create fanworks for prompts
- Post fanworks
- Rinse and repeat.

Any questions - ask them as a response to the first comment in the thread. Aside from that, please start prompting!

I hope you all have fun ♥

Re: Q&A
Hmm...I don't where this fits as it is more of a side comment: I just read tonight about this idea called the "Bechdel Test" (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/UsefulNotes/TheBechdelTest?from=Main.TheBechdelTest)

"In order to pass, the film or show must meet the following criteria:
It includes at least two women,*
who have at least one conversation,
about something other than a man or men.*"

This reminded me of the interviews with MM where she talked about wishing for more scenes between the female, human characters. (The cylon women talk, but rarely the human women.) If there wasn't the Arrow of Apollo part would BSG pass the Bechdel test? I guess there is Elosha.

Forgetting the Appointment Rating M (warning for blood) Pt. 1 of 2
What the frak?

The pain comes out of nowhere, centering down to her lower belly like ground glass in a barrel roll. Her instinctive moving away from the pain pulls her attention to the slick wetness between her thighs. She had been insatiable last night, pulling Laura to her again and again until they were both drenched in each other’s juices, but something was different…she raises her hips and feels liquid squish under her ass and groans. The frakking shot. She’d forgotten her frakking contraceptive shot and was getting her Godsdamn period all over Laura’s million thread-count imported sheets.

“Kara? You okay?”

Kara pushes the sheets down between their naked bodies, making a barrier.

“I forgot my Godsdamn shot.”

Laura gives her a lazy, sensual smile that says she thinks something is funny. It’s almost annoying but it makes her so adorable Kara doesn’t usually mind.

“We got pretty wild last night but I’m pretty sure I didn’t get you pregnant.”

“I mean I think I got my frakking period all over your sheets, okay?”

Kara’s pissed and is baffled by the way Laura’s expression softens as she looks at her.

“It’s okay, Kara. It’ll wash out. How much is it?”

Kara’s a little taken aback by this. Any blood is bad news, it’s hurt and stains and stinks when it gets old. She knows this from bandages not changed often enough, old wounds and home wrappings.

“I dunno.” She props on her elbows and looks at Laura’s eyes, nodding when Laura takes the edge of the covers and raises her eyebrow in a question.

“Is it bad?” Kara doesn’t look. She finds periods uninteresting, a nagging reminder that someone forgot their shot, or that someone has decided to try for a baby. This has never been her.

“No, it’s not.”

There’s a note in Laura’s voice, like she’s seeing something special. Kara cranes her neck a little and looks down between her legs. Bright and dark red blood mingles wet on the sheets and in dried patches on her thighs. Some of her blond pubic hair is colored red as Laura’s hair. It looks like she’s taken a dagger to her crotch and as soon as she thinks that another sharp pain rips through her abdomen.

“Do you have a fetish I don’t know about?” She looks at Laura with curiosity. They’ve never discussed this before. Why would they? Neither one has periods when she’s paying attention to her appointments.

“No…but it’s been a long time since I’ve seen menstrual blood. I’d almost forgotten how bright red it was.” A blush colors Laura’s smooth creamy cheeks. “When I was young, I’d wear Aphrodite jewelry—-earrings and a necklace with dark red stones—when I had my period. A fad, I suppose.”

Kara shrugs. “I never got into that. A neighbor lady took me to Aphrodite’s Temple the first time I got mine. My mother….” She stops talking and knows that Laura will understand.

Laura starts talking about how horny she used to get on that first day and goes into “orgasms help cramps”. Kara wants to get up and wash but Laura’s breath is soft on her left breast and she starts nodding. Laura is talking about remembering feeling like her clit and everything around it felt like fat swollen cherries the first day of her period, which Kara thinks is a little over the top until she realizes she does feel like everything between her legs is…ripe, and ready for…something. Harvesting, maybe.

Front Page News (T)
Kara is waiting in Laura's office when she returns from Galactica. Laura tosses a folded newspaper onto her desk and settles into her chair with a sigh.

"I take it you've seen this."

"I'm sorry," Kara says, frowning at her photo on the newspaper's front page. Above the photo of a grinning Kara with a cigar hanging out of her mouth is a headline that reads President in Bed with Military?. "If I find out who talked to the press, I'll beat the--"

"Kara, sit down. No one is going to be beating the shit out of anyone." Honestly, Laura wanted to be the one to crack some skulls over this leak, but she knows that would only result in more ugly fallout. She can't believe that just three days into her presidency the press has already discovered their relationship. "The last thing we need is to give Adama another reason to discipline you. I think I made him see reason but he's a hard man to read."

Kara's eyes go wide. "You talked to the old man about us?"

"I told him that I intend to continue having a private life and that it happens to include one of his officers. If he has a problem with that, he'll have to take it up with me, not you."

"How'd the old man take that?"

Kara has told Laura plenty of stories about her boss over the course of her relationship, so Laura had been prepared for the man's stubbornness and moral certainty where his crew are concerned. "He wasn't happy, but I don't see what choice he has."

"He could prevent me from coming over here."

"But he can't prevent me from visiting Galactica. As the president I have a right to full access to the fleet's resources."

Kara grins. "Does that mean I'll finally get to frak you in the duty locker?"

Laura rolls her eyes. That's been one of Kara's fantasies from the start, and frankly not one that Laura sees the appeal of. "We'll figure something out."

"You could finally cave and agree to marry me," Kara says.

Another of her recurring fantasies. Laura knows that it's less practical than ever now. "You're willing to give up flying?"

"Hell no."

"Well I don't think it would be appropriate to have a first lady who flies Vipers." Laura glances at the photo again. "Or smokes cigars. Or gets in bar fights . . ."

Kara frowns. "So what do we do?"

It's too soon to tell how this will play out in the press, but Laura knows that there is one surefire cure for scandal: time.

"We do our jobs."

"Yessir," Kara says with a grin and a cocky salute. "Frak, I love it when you're all presidential."

"Kara."

As always, she's unrepentant, brushing off the warning in Laura's voice with a smile before conceding. "I should get back."

They stand, suddenly serious as they reluctantly acknowledge this strange new shift in their relationship. Kara stops by the curtained door, her confident military bearing marred by the uncertainty in her eyes. Laura doesn't have the heart to send her away like this. Stepping closer, she puts her arms around Kara's neck and kisses her. It isn't nearly enough to satisfy either of them, but it will have to do for now.

A Prayer for the Dying (Rating: K)
(I only used one candle.. oops?)

Laura swore when the match burned out, the tremors of her shaking hand too violent for the small flame to survive. Turning to where the matchbook had fallen by her knee, she felt dizzy by the time she faced back to the candle and prayer book in front of her. Fingers fumbling with the small piece of cardboard, she frowned when she discovered the one remaining match.

There was a lighter on the desk, but she doubted her ability to stand without assistance.

The gods could very well forgive her for praying without a light, but she didn't want to risk it. Deciding to use her last try, Laura's frown deepened as the match persisted in being stuck in its carrier.

When a hand touched her shoulder, she dropped the matchbook, having not heard the steps that brought the person.

"Sorry," Kara murmured, quickly crouching to pick it up.

Laura placed a hand to her chest, letting out a slow breath. "It's alright."

After a moments hesitation, the blonde seated herself behind Laura, letting her lean against her as a support. She wrapped her arms around the older woman's wasting frame, resting her chin on her shoulder. When the pilot offered the matchbook, Laura simply leaned her head against Kara's.

"Could you?"

Silently, she ripped the match from its home, striking it against the rough back of the book before easily carrying the small flame to the wick of the candle. It caught fast, spluttering slightly. With a flick of her wrist, Kara snuffed the match, leaving the candle light alone.

Laura picked up the prayer book, resting it against her knee so that Kara could read if she wished. Her lips trembled, but she didn't speak the words. Feeling Kara press a soft kiss to her neck, she closed her eyes.

The pilot twined her fingers through a strand of Laura's hair, and when it came loose, simply reached forward and held it on the candle's flame.

Laura opened her eyes to watch the offering burn.

Sometimes people came back from battle.

Title: The Best Solution
(apparently I'm jumping off the diving board rather than attempting the wading pool- yay for trying new things)

It's sitting on the table when she gets home, and Laura doesn't even notice. She's abandoned her heels by the couch, left her jacket on the ottomand, and is blindly reaching for a slightly bruised apple in the fruit bowl (Kara will turn anything into a pyramid ball) when she finally sees it.

It's gray, smooth, pitted, and just about the perfect size to fit in her palm.

Laura stares at it over the top of her glasses, wondering what it could possibly be doing on her dining table.

"Mm, thought I heard you." Kara shuffles in from the hall, yawning. She's clad in only a sports bra and a pair of sweatpants. Eyes half closed, she raisess her arms and continues shuffling forward until Laura more or less ends up inbetween them. Her hands tighten across the older woman then, and her face drops to her chest. "How was work?"

"Are you asking me or the girls?"

Kara's nose makes it into her shirt, and Laura can feel the pleased noise she makes when she discovers her bra has a front clasp.

"All three of you." Her hands move around to her front, assisting her in her task in removing Laura's undergarment.

The red head had long ago learned to wear strapless bras as often as she could, lest she wanted to deal with ripped shirts and helplessly tangled sleeves on a regular basis.

"Well. How was your afternoon?"

"Good. Shopping trip with Zak was a success."

"Glad to hear it." Laura gives the blonde a soft slap to the ass when she bites her collarbone while emerging from her shirt triumphant, bra in hand.

"Bought something for you."

"Really?" She places her fingers on Kara's chin, then leans forward to kiss her. "What is it?"

"You're going to love him."

She thinks of the disaster that was the potted plant and dread fills her. "What?"

"You're going to love him," Kara repeats, grin overtaking her face. She steps away to deposit the bra on the counter, but catches Laura's hand as she does so, so as not to lose contact.

Laura pulls her back by that same link, grip tightening. "Him?"

"Yup."

Now she knows that Kara is being deliberately vague, just to torment her. "Kara," a note of warning enters her voice.

The blonde rolls her eyes, then wraps an arm around her waist and pulls her close.

"See? He's perfect."

"I don't see anything," Laura comments, beginning to wonder if Kara is perhaps pulling her leg; and some poor hapless creature hasn't just been brought into their home.

"What, need new glasses already?"

Before she can formulate a response, Kara gestures towards the table. Laura's eyes fall back to the polished wood, stopping on the fruit bowl and the apple she had been hoping to snack on. Then they fall on it.

"A rock."

"Yup."

"You bought a rock?"

"There's a liscense and everything."

"What?" She can't quite believe it. "You bought a liscense to own a rock?"

"I bought a liscense to own Rocky."

The confidence in her voice begins to waver, and Laura wonders if she aught not tone down the incredulousness in her responses.

"I mean, we both work so I thought this was the best solution." Kara starts babbling into the sudden silence, "I can take him back, the store, it's stupid, I-"

Laura silences her with a kiss, soothing her fingers across the younger woman's hips.

"He can stay."

"Oh."

The surprised look she adopts makes Laura kiss her again. "It's an excellent solution, considering.."

She sees a look cross Kara's face that tells her the plant has come to mind for her, too.

"And just because you bought him from me doesn't mean you don't have to do your fair share of taking care of him," Laura begins to lecture.

"Don't worry," Kara starts smiling again. "I'll take him on walks and everything."

Laura has no doubt that she will.

"And I'll feed him, and bathe him, and pick up after him too."

"Good, because the Gods help you if I start finding little pebbles everywhere."

Kara just laughs.

Legacy (1 of 2)
“Frak.”

Kara sets the grocery bags on the kitchen table and moves towards the source of the epithet. The bathroom door is closed but she can see that the light is on from underneath, and she moves a little quicker. She knocks on the door lightly, and the few seconds she waits before entering feel like forever, as a dozen scenarios of what might have happened filter through her mind.

She opens the door tentatively, breathing a little easier when the floor is clear- it’s going to take a while for her to forget the panic of a few weeks ago, when she came home to find Laura unconscious on the cold tile. The lecture they both received from the doctor in the ER who treated her for dehydration and exhaustion was nothing compared to the one Kara gave her when they were alone again, for not calling her sooner, for insisting Kara go to work that day despite knowing that increased diloxin dose would do to her. Laura had tearfully apologized, and Kara had felt awful for yelling at her, but at least since then Laura has let her be there a little bit more, even if all she can do is to hold back her hair and offer quiet comfort to the older woman as her body is turned inside out trying to expel the poison being dripped into her veins three times a week.

Stepping into the bathroom, Kara finds Laura standing at the sink, furiously wiping away tears. Kara steps up behind her and wraps her arms around Laura, resting her chin on Laura’s shoulder. She looks at their reflection in the mirror, and as always is stunned by the picture of them that she sees. Despite all that Laura’s been through in the past two months she is still the most beautiful creature Kara has ever seen, and her continual wonder at what she’s still doing here with her never seems to fade.
The trembling in Laura’s muscles slowly subside as Kara continues to hold her close, and at last Laura looks up from her hands and meets Kara’s gaze in the mirror.

“Hey.”

“Hey yourself,” Kara says teasingly, then sobers. “How are you feeling?”

Kara immediately wants to kick herself for asking when the question immediately seems to tear down Laura’s tenuous composure. Laura leans against the sink as she works to hold back a wrenching sob, but before Kara can decide how to proceed, Laura holds out a thick wad of tissue and offers it to Kara. Kara takes it tentatively even though she doesn’t understand; then she opens it, and she does.

A large clump of auburn hair is tucked between the soft paper, and Kara has to bite back her own emotional response. They have both known this was coming- it was explained to them in detail before treatment began, and Kara has seen the growing mass of hair that lands in the bottom of the wastebasket every morning after Laura brushes her hair. But this clump, this perfect lock of hair makes it all seem so much more real all of a sudden.

Kara loves Laura’s hair. She loves washing it for Laura when they share a shower, she loves the feel of it tickling her body as they make love, she loves it on Sunday mornings when they walk along the harbor together, the swish of Laura’s long summer dresses moving in tandem with the long simple braid down her back.

But more than that, Kara loves Laura, and the loss of her hair in exchange for her life is a trade she would gladly make a thousand times over.

She folds the tissue back over the hair, and sets it down on the sink before reaching up to run her hands along Laura’s neck, her shoulders, and down towards her breasts where she is careful to only lightly caress the left one, mindful of the still healing incision, but even more aware that to avoid it altogether will send Laura the wrong message.

“It’s only hair.” Kara whispers into her neck, and Laura shudders at the feel of her breath on her skin. “When the treatment is done it’ll grow back, and until then think of all the time you’ll save not having to brush it, wash it, condition it, detangle it…”

Laura lets out a soft giggle, and Kara smiles and kisses her neck again. “And we can go wig shopping. Just think of all the styles and colors you can try..”

Laura pulls away from her before she can finish and flees the bathroom with another muffled sob.

One pill makes you larger,
One pill makes you small,
And the ones that mother gives you,
Don't do anything at all
