Laura/Kara Fic Party!

I'm posting this a day earlier than I said, as I think a lot of stuff is happening tomorrow and I wanted to get this out there :)

Ok! letterstonorah and I declare the Immortal Goddesses Fic Party open!

Here's the plan.

What we'd like are prompts. Lots of prompts. HUNDREDS of prompts. Any kind of prompts you like - single words, song lyrics, phrases, scenarios, acts, themes, tropes, emotions, entire plots, anything. Any rating is fine.

Keep each prompt to its own comment, please.

And then we all just fill prompts. Check the prompts, pick one, two, five, twenty, fifty, that you like and create fanworks focused on Laura/Kara that fit them, then post as a comment reply to the prompt. If you create something too large to fit in a comment box, or if you'd just rather do it that way anyhow, then feel free to post to your own journal and just post a link to the fanwork as a reply.

Although we’ve called this a fic party, any kind of creative response to the prompt is ok, so while we all adore fic and hope to see lots of it, we'd love to see graphics, icons, mini fanmixes, picspams, pieces of meta or anything else you want to create too.

Fics don't have to be long! Drabble size is absolutely fine if you want to just get a feel for it to begin with. If you want to write epics, though, believe me, no one will complain...

It's fine for more than one person to create something for the same prompt.

It's also fine for you to create things for your own prompts, so if you have a story you really want to write that doesn't fit anything here, leave yourself a prompt and fill it.

If you want to leave anonymous prompts and fic for whatever reason, you can do that. I think I've arranged the settings so you can.

Although shippy is preferable, we’re ok with gen too, so long as the focus is on Kara and Laura and their relationship with each other, not just a K/L or A/R story with a bit of bonus Kara&Laura conversation, if that makes sense. Other characters are also ok, so long as there is a main focus on Laura/Kara. Either canon-based or AU stories are fine.

There's no right or wrong way to write them! So don't worry if you've never written the pairing before. Most people haven't. We're all figuring it out together, but the one thing we can probably all agree on is that they are beautiful and wonderful and lovely. So ... create your own versions of them and share them with us, and that's absolutely fine.

Please make sure you put appropriate ratings and warnings on any fic you write, in the comment header. I’m not really going to mod this, except to delete anything spammy or that I think is totally inappropriate, so if you write something that is likely to be very triggery, please put it under a cut on your own journal and just link to it here.

Please try to leave feedback on the fanworks posted.

At some point, if we get a lot of participation, I’ll make a start on some kind of masterlist, but it’ll depend on whether it looks necessary.

There is no deadline and I don't plan to close this thread. I'm going to link to it at the side of my journal and I would like to ask you guys to track the post so that you will get notifications when new prompts are left and when new fic, etc, is posted, so that you can write, read and respond, otherwise, the way LJ works, this will be out of sight, out of mind after a day or two.

Nora and I are hoping this might go on indefinitely, so you can continue to leave prompts and create fanworks for as long as you like. Weeks, months, whatever. Keep coming back and checking it out whenever you feel like writing the pairing, and point other people in this direction if you think they would enjoy it. Nora and I might periodically put little reminders that this is here on our own LJs.

In short

- Leave prompts
- Read prompts
- Create fanworks for prompts
- Post fanworks
- Rinse and repeat.

Any questions - ask them as a response to the first comment in the thread. Aside from that, please start prompting!

I hope you all have fun ♥

Bedtime Stories, T
This one was written as a gift for Nora yesterday.

----------------

Kara's sitting at the table in the kitchen stuck in the middle of a staring match with someone who looks so much like a miniature Laura it's almost freaky. It's not even just the hair or those green eyes; it's the expression on the little face, looking right into Kara like she's reading her mind.

Kara coughs and turns back to her food as Laura comes up behind her niece, patting her shoulder to get her to sit back down in her chair. “Settle down, you, and leave your auntie Kara to eat her dinner in peace. Bedtime soon.”

Auntie Kara?

Somehow she's managed to avoid spending anything like a prolonged period of time with four year old Sarah Roslin-White up until now, despite having lived with Laura for almost two years. It's not been that hard; Laura's sister lives on the other side of Caprica, and Kara usually manages to find an excuse to get out of the regular Roslin family gatherings. Laura never pushes her, knowing that family isn't an easy thing for Kara to deal with. So the last time she saw Sarah, she was just a little thing in a high-chair, smearing chocolate all over herself, and Kara kept herself on the other side of the room, quietly getting sloshed on the good whisky Laura's dad kept handing her.

Now Sarah's staying for the weekend while Sandra and her husband go off-world for a wedding, and Kara's hasn't got a single frakking idea what she's supposed to do with this apparently scarily bright kid for two whole days.

Laura hustles the kid off for a bath and then bed fairly soon after dinner, to Kara's relief. She pours herself a glass of whisky from Laura's ridiculous crystal decanter and settles down on the couch, putting her feet up on the coffee table and taking a swallow of the liquid, feeling the burn trail deliciously down her throat.

Shrieks and splashing, followed by Laura's familiar giggle, trickle from the bathroom. Kara can't imagine ever having that much fun being bathed as a kid. It was a quick dunk in water that was too cold or too hot for the most part, soap in her eyes as her hair was washed, and the back of her mother's hand if she got the floor wet.

She can't hear the quiet murmuring of Laura reading Sarah a bedtime story, but she can imagine it. Sarah will be snuggled up under the blankets in the guest room, her head crooked into Laura's shoulder, while the soft soothe of Laura's voice will fill her ears with tales of pirates and dragons and adventure. Kara's not sure anyone ever read her a bedtime story. Maybe her father did once, a long time ago. She vaguely recalls some stupid thing about a rabbit and a duck, or some other crap like that, but she doesn't have those memories that Laura is creating for Sarah right this minute.

When she's tucked up in her own bed with Laura later that night, Laura notices right away that she's wistful.

“What's wrong?” She turns to rest her chin on Kara's shoulder and looks at her with that same soul-searching expression Sarah wore.

“Tell me a bedtime story?” says Kara, and she doesn't know where that came from.

Laura laughs, softly, but then she curls her arm around Kara's shoulder and starts to whisper a tale of a young girl named Kara, who was the fairest in all the land, but who was locked away by an evil wizard in a tower called Galactica. She does a passable impression of Bill Adama, and his minions Lee and Saul, and by the time she gets to the great and beautiful heroine Laura riding in to save the day, Kara is laughing so hard that Laura has to put a hand over her mouth to keep her quiet so she doesn't wake Sarah up.

Kara rolls on top of her, pinning her arms above her head, and leans down to kiss her, slowly and deeply. Laura smiles, looking up at her with such love that Kara doesn't know what to do with it all, and as she brings her hand up to cup Laura's breast, and feels Laura's legs open and slip around her hips, she resolves that, tonight, she'll make some good memories of her own.

Re: Bedtime Stories, T
This is such a sweet glimpse of what could have been. I can see Kara as a reluctant auntie figure, and having a lot of envy for what she never got. Laura picking up on that and both of them working together to get what they need is wonderful. Kara's memories of childhood baths are wrenching. And I do love the idea of Laura doing a "Bill" voice at story time :-)

Re: Bedtime Stories, T
I definitely couldn't see Kara being comfortable around Laura's niece at all, and listening to Laura taking care of her so capably would fill her with a lot of envy.

LOL, Laura doing a 'Bill' voice is my favourite thing.

Thank you!

Re: Bedtime Stories, T
I'm so happy Laura's family's still alive. Kara's reluctance to be in a family seems very her. I love Laura's bedtime story. And how great they are for each other.

Re: Bedtime Stories, T
It's interesting to explore what it might be like for Laura if they had all survived! I'm kinda thinking of seeing if I can do anything else with Laura's niece like this. It's lovely to see her with Laura, even if it makes Kara uncomfortable.

Thank you :)

Re: Bedtime Stories, T
The contrast between Kara's childhood memories and her experience of Laura as a caregiver is so telling. It makes perfect sense why Kara would have avoided spending time with Laura's family and why she has no clue how to relate to a carefree happy little girl. And it says so much about why Kara is drawn to Laura.

Re: Bedtime Stories, T
My sister and her kids are in town right now, so I'm totally relating with Kara's 'oh shit, small child, what am I supposed to do around you'? I am definitely not, cool, calm, collected aunt Laura.

Laura doing a Bill impersonation? Ha. Too cute.

Yay for good memories. Yum.

Re: Bedtime Stories, T
This is so wonderful- the image of a little Laura hanging around Kara and Laura is just too adorable, but then coupled in between is the sadness of Kara and her childhood. This line so perfectly laid it out, and made my heart ache for Kara.

So beautiful, and so sad.

This is the sweetest story, ever! I love Kara making happy memories of her own :-)

That would be hilarious. Minion!Lee. lol.

*whimper* This is absolutely adorable. I love how you've captured Kara's want so well. This is still the Kara we know from the BSG universe, except she has found a different way to channel herself, and gosh - Laura and her niece? So adorable, and Laura telling Kara a bedtime story? It was just amazing, and Kara being afraid of the niece made me LOL. :)

Re: Bedtime Stories, T
So nice. I love seeing Kara's fear & hesitation here. I am very intrigued by the idea of fic where Laura's family is still alive and how it would change the K/LR dynamic.

“Tell me a bedtime story?” says Kara, and she doesn't know where that came from.

Laura smiles, looking up at her with such love that Kara doesn't know what to do with it all.

Floored with feels.

Re: Bedtime Stories, T
I wish I knew how Laura was telling the story, what the details were that makes Kara laugh. Laura telling the story about herself as the hero would be hilarious but it would be the way she tells it that would make our sides stitch and our hearts swell.

I don't think Kara had many stories told to her as a child Sarah's age, so this would have been a perfectly endearing thing for Kara to ask of her story-telling lover.

The potential here is so great if you were up for it. Consider this my prompt for you.
